testing 126 Sears Street

Last night, I went on another test at the house. The tight cityscape and the flat facade make this a completely different experience than working with the chapel near Trumansburg.

The other little news about this project is that I am working with a great artist and programmer to process the video differently then last time. I can’t wait to show it to you!

I am excited about how the submitted drawings looked last night, and I have a few new ones to show you below. Read More »

new-to-me from armory week

Armory Week is a lame way to actually see art, and it requires you to be cynical. Collectors float past booths sipping champagne and complaining about a lack of “replacement parts” or questioning how this artwork would balance their collection. I saw the gallery Canada at three different fairs. But it becomes a super fast way to see a lot of stuff. I even saw a few of my favs like Mary Temple and Robin Rhode. After running through booths, streets, and hotel rooms, I’m linking to six new-to-me artists who I stopped to look at.

more drawings for 126 Sears Street

I’m excited to see each of the different representations of 126 Sears Street. If you’re still working on your drawing, you can send it to me any time next week. Don’t worry about how much time you put into it or how creative it is. The best part is taking a little time out of your schedule to draw (whether that is 15 minutes or an afternoon).

I’m extending the deadline to March 18th, but please send it as soon as you can. If you missed the original details, you can read about it here.

drawings in the mail

Last night, after surviving as the backseat driver through a crazy snow storm from NYC, I was really happy to get home and find this postcard waiting for me. I have more to share about the fairs from this weekend (later) and am looking forward to seeing more drawings of 126 Sears Street.

A Season for Texas

leakeylodge

I’m leaving this weekend to take a little artist’s retreat to these sunny google-pix! I’ve never been to Texas, and it looks like I’ll be flying over most of it to hit this spot.  I’m raising my white flag, watching the weather forecast, and worrying about getting out of bed for my 6am flight.  I hope to come back with slightly less angst towards the feet of snow that keep growing outside my studio and a little more of myself to put into my studio.

2011 Feb 21 Artist Talk

Every month CAP Artspace hosts a free artist’s talk that is open to the public. On February 21st, I’ll be sharing about my experience making community-based art in Tompkins County. Along with news about my next project! Joshua Sperling currently has a show in Artspace and will also be talking on the same night. Artspace is located on the Commons in Center Ithaca. You enter via the Ticket Center/Vistor Center. The program starts at 6:30pm. If you can’t make it, I’ll be adding news about my spring project in Ithaca on the blog next week.

This presentation is co‐sponsored by Artists & Audiences Exchange, a NYFA public program, funded with leadership support from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Karen Brummund is a 2010 Artist Fellowship recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA).

Workshop at the Johnson Museum

I’m looking forward to teaching my first workshop at the Johnson Museum. It’s a non-threatening studio workshop designed for us all to have fun experimenting with abstraction. We’ll use my invented approaches and unusual materials to not just draw it as it appears. Like Picasso said, “A head is a matter of eyes, nose, mouth, which can be distributed any way you like.” Sound like fun?

The details below:

Inventive Methods and Materials
Wednesdays for 3 weeks: February 9, 16, 23
5:30–7:30 p.m.
Break free from your usual art practice! In this three-part series, conceptual artist Karen Brummond encourages artists of all levels of experience to look beyond traditional art-making materials and discover how art can be made out of just about anything. Drawing on themes in our special exhibitions, participants will use nontraditional materials and invented approaches to conceive new degrees of abstraction.
FEES: $30 Museum Members / $36 nonmembers, materials included
Registration and payment are required by February 7
. Please call 607 255-6464.
